Houghton Lake Fishing Report

Fish

June 30, 2009

June was a great month for fishing. Some of the best walleye and bluegill in years! Stop by the store and get the latest spots for the best fishing.

Walleye:
Some nice walleye reports but not alot of pictures. Trolling with crawler harness in about 6' to 10' of water seems to work well. Look for a little weeds and keep moving. Leeches are also good right now for those of you that like them. Jigs and drift fishing are doing well also. Work the edges in the main weedbed areas of the south shore or the middle grounds.

Pike: As always, the 21" to 23" are very attractive. Just a few reports of keeper size. Not as many people fish for pike in summer as they do in winter. The big sucker minnows do best or a large crank bait.

Holly & Mary
3 Large mouth bass
Fish

Bluegills: Some of the biggest bluegill and sunfish I've ever seen in years. 10" plus! Leafworms and crawlers are doing good, wax worms on a tear drop work very well too. Best fishing is still 4' to 8' in or around the weedbeds. Some guys are drifting but that gets a little tougher as the weeds start growing.

Perch & Crappie: Moved into lake, offshore.

Stop by Lyman's on the Lake for "Hot Spots" on our map of Houghton Lake.
